Winter Spirits - January 28

If you’re looking for a very special gift for holiday giving, here is one that will warm the cockles of your heart.  Pick up a couple of tickets to “Winter Spirits,” a dinner at Forte’s on the Square sponsored by First Tennessee Investors on Peavine Road and Jan’s Wine and Liquor at Five Points.  “Winter Spirits” features a special menu prepared by Forte’s chefs to include a warming “spirit” in every dish.

The evening begins early with cheese and crackers served from the bar and real eggnog with rum.  Take time to visit with other guests, then find your table for the first course, Penne Pasta Ala Vodka.

The fish course will be Grilled Salmon with a Tequila Lime Beurre Blanc sauce on the side.  Also on the plate will be Mesculun Salad with a Champagne Green Goddess Dressing.

Your second entrée will be Filet Mignon au Poivre, featuring a Brandy Peppercorn Sauce, and served with Baby Stuffed Baked Potatoes.

Save room for dessert, a scrumptious Black Forest Torte with Kirschwasser Liquour.  Forte’s bar will be open all evening for your enjoyment.  Also on hand will be their liquor distributor to give you some background on the “spirits” you will be tasting in your food.  Of course most of the alcohol evaporates during cooking, but some remains, plus the distinctive flavor of each beverage.

As a parting gift to each guest, Forte’s chefs will provide recipes for each dish to be tried at home.  Just take the recipe to Jan’s Wine and Liquor and she will help you get just the right “spirit” for your dish.

The event will take place on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 beginning at 4:00 pm.  Tickets are $50 per person, but if you hurry you can get in on the “Early Bird” pricing of $48 per person until January 2.  Can you imagine a more welcome gift for someone special?

To get your tickets to this very special evening send a check to Crossville Arts Council, 99 Municipal Avenue, Crossville, TN 38555.  Must be postmarked before January 2 to qualify for “Early Bird’ pricing. Tickets will be mailed after January 2.  Call Judy Pearson at 931-484-8234 for more information.  This event helps fund arts projects of the Crossville Arts Council.  Forte’s on the Square, First Tennessee Investors and Jan’s Wine and Liquor are among our ‘Partners in Art,’ supporting the arts in Cumberland County.

Celebrating Crossville as a Community of the Arts!

The Crossville Arts Council announces a new initiative to bring art to everyone who lives in or visits Crossville.  Entitled “Art – Take it to the Streets,” this project places art in downtown business windows and inside businesses within our community.  Partnering with a number of downtown business and community leaders, the Crossville Arts Council has begun placing artwork in a number of windows and buildings on Main Street, and will soon be expanding to businesses off Main Street.

Currently, artwork can be seen in the windows of Mitchell’s Drug Store at Main and Fifth Streets, which features the work of folk doll artist Rose Sabine, painter Lillian Murray, potter Ray Butkus, and basket maker Scott Eatherly.  Lazarus Hospice House in the Arches Building at Main and Fourth Streets features the paintings of artist Karen Gibson.  Title Centers of America at 59 S. Main Street features paintings by award-winning portrait artist Joan Leininger.  Windows of the law office of Attorney Jane Powers at Fifth and Main features the artwork of artist Karen Gibson.  The exterior of Ms. Powers building also features our Downtown Mural Project entitled “All the Hands that Work.”  A couple of paintings of shoes can be seen in the window of French’s Shoes.  Watch for artwork soon in the windows of Express Lunch and Dave’s Coin Shop.

Any member of the Crossville Arts Council may display their artwork in businesses who have offered to participate in this project.  Artwork will be featured on a rotating basis, and each window will name the artist featured there.  In most cases, their business cards will be available inside the business.   Participating businesses are not responsible for selling the featured artwork.  Those interested should contact the artist on display.

Area artists who wish to have their work featured on display may join the Crossville Arts Council by mailing a check for $25 to 99 Municipal Avenue, Crossville, TN 38555.  An artist does not need to reside in Cumberland County to join the Crossville Arts Council.  Students of any age may join for $5.

For further information, please call the office of the Crossville Arts Council at 931-456-2006, or Project Chairs Karen Gibson at 484-3697 or Melissa Stowers at 931-456-4640
