The Crossville Arts Council announces a new initiative to bring art to everyone who lives in or visits Crossville. Entitled “Art – Take it to the Streets,” this project places art in downtown business windows and inside businesses within our community. Partnering with a number of downtown business and community leaders, the Crossville Arts Council has begun placing artwork in a number of windows and buildings on Main Street, and will soon be expanding to businesses off Main Street.
Currently, artwork can be seen in the windows of Mitchell’s Drug Store at Main and Fifth Streets, which features the work of folk doll artist Rose Sabine, painter Lillian Murray, potter Ray Butkus, and basket maker Scott Eatherly.
Lazarus Hospice House in the Arches Building at Main and Fourth Streets features the paintings of artist Karen Gibson. Title Centers of America at 59 S. Main Street features paintings by award-winning portrait artist Joan Leininger. Windows of the law office of Attorney Jane Powers at Fifth and Main features the artwork of artist Karen Gibson. The exterior of Ms. Powers building also features our Downtown Mural Project entitled “All the Hands that Work.” A couple of paintings of shoes can be seen in the window of French’s Shoes. Watch for artwork soon in the windows of Express Lunch and Dave’s Coin Shop.
Any member of the Crossville Arts Council may display their artwork in businesses who have offered to participate in this project. Artwork will be featured on a rotating basis, and each window will name the artist featured there. In most cases, their business cards will be available inside the business. Participating businesses are not responsible for selling the featured artwork. Those interested should contact the artist on display.
Area artists who wish to have their work featured on display may join the Crossville Arts Council by mailing a check for $25 to 99 Municipal Avenue, Crossville, TN 38555. An artist does not need to reside in Cumberland County to join the Crossville Arts Council. Students of any age may join for $5.
